This season has been one of the most successful in recent memory for the VIU Mariners across the board.
Our women’s volleyball team defeated the King’s College Blue Devils 3-0 to win gold in the CCAA National Championship 3-0, becoming the first team to defend their championship title and the first to win back-to-back. The men’s volleyball took bronze at nationals against the Keyano Huskies in a 3-2 victory.
Both the women’s and men’s basketball teams won the PACWEST Provincial Championships. The women triumphed over the Capilano Blues 82-77. The men pulled out a win against the Douglas Royals 89-82 in an overtime thriller. The Mariners basketball teams will go on to their respective CCAA National Championships. The women will travel to Sainte-Foy, Quebec, to compete March 14 – 16. The men will ferry over to Langara College in Vancouver, BC, to play March 13 – 16.
The Mariners also boast the longest list of student-athletes for the CCAA Academic All-Canadian Awards and have the second most student-athletes for the PACWEST Academic Excellence Awards.
